Tour Plan

day 1: mandalay arrrival (l/d)

Upon arrival at the Yangon International Airport, you will be welcomed by our tour guide. We begin the tour of Mandalay.
    
The scared Mahamuni Pagoda, one of the famous and a giant glittering golden Buddha statue in Mandalay.

The Shwe Inbin Monastery, Golden Palace Monastery (Shwe Kyaung) is the only remaining building from the 19th century Royal Palace, following the bombings during World War 2.

Kuthodaw Pagoda houses the world’s largest book, make up of 729 marble slabs onto which Buddha’s teachings are carved in ancient Pali scripts.

Mandalay is famous for its skilled craftsmen, who were historically commissioned by the royal families. We will visit a selection of these shops, witnessing the incredible techniques of wood carving, gold leaf making and kalaga tapestry sewing.

We will end our day with sunset view of the city skyline from Mandalay Hill, the highest point of the city.

After breakfast at your hotel, we head to Sagaing, with over 600 white painted pagodas, monasteries and nunnery. Proceed visiting to the Swan Oo Pone Nya Shin and U Min Thone Sae Pagodas.

From there, we will go and visit to Sagaing local market and stop visiting at a small pottery village to see the making of the clay water pots found throughout Myanmar.

After that, continue to travel south and further back in time, to Ava (Inwa), an even more ancient capital of Myanmar from the 14th to 18th centuries. We will cross over the Myit Nge River by boat and explore the small roads by horse cart. One site of interest is the Bagayar Teak Monastery, famous for its impressive woodcarvings and well preserved teak aged for over three hundred years. You will also see the remains of the Royal Palace, complete with a Fort. The Nanmyint Watch Tower also known as the “Leaning Tower of Ava”, is the last standing structure of the Ava dynasty palace compound.

The final visit in Ava is to Maha Aung Myae Bon Zan Monastery. The Monastery was built by Queen Me Nu, wife of King Bagyidaw of the Kone Baung Dynasty in 1818 as the residence of the Royal Abbott.
On the way back from Ava, we will take a quick detour to Amarapura another former capital whose name means ‘City of Immortality’. We will visit a traditional hand woven silk workshop to learn how to make Myanmar longyis and traditional fabrics, before heading to U Bein Bridge. This 200 years old teak bridge was built in 1782 when Amarapura was the Royal Capital. You can enjoy a stroll along the bridge, and enjoy panoramic sunset views of the Taung Thaman Lake.

After sunset, we will return to Mandalay.

After breakfast, we take a scenic drive (80 km – 2 hrs) to the former British hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo). This is a town not only known for its charming colonial-style buildings, but also its rich and diverse collection of flora at National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens. 

First, we will visit National Kandawgyi Garden. This botanical garden is about 50 acre in size and contains more than 5,000 trees, 575 different floral species and various rare species of bird.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we will visit the Peik Chin Myaung Caves, located behind a waterfall. As common with most famous caves of Myanmar, here you will also see a lot of Buddha statues and shrines inside the cave. We will proceed to Pwe Kauk Water Falls, known as Hampshire Falls during British times. It is 8 Km away from town and a favourite picnic spot of the local people to take a dip during the hot seasons.

After visit, you will drive back to Mandalay and return to hotel. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is leisure.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for domestic flight to Bagan. Upon arrival, start visiting to the famous Shwezigone Pagoda, considered the most wonderful and shouldn’t miss pagoda in Bagan. Nearby Shwezigone, we will visit Wetkyi Inn Gubyaukgyi, a cave temple with exquisite mural paintings and the elegant Htilominlo Temple, noted for its fine plaster carvings and glazed sandstone decorations.

Continue touring to the famous pagodas in Bagan, we arrive at Ananda Pagoda. Said to be the perfect pagoda, an architectural masterpiece, it hides dark stories. In pursuit of perfections, the King who commissioned it was rumour to execute any worker who did not perform up to expectations.

In the evening, we resume our journey on horse cart, Thatbyinnyu, the highest temple in Bagan, Dhammanyangyi the largest temple in Bagan.

Finally, we will finish the evening with an unforgettable sunset over the plains from the one of the Sunset Hill viewpoints.
Remark: The government strictly prohibited to climb the entire temple in Bagan since February 2018.

After breakfast at your hotel, drive (1 hr) to visit the colonial port town of Salay. The first stop is the Yoke Sone Kyaung Monastery (closed on Mondays and Public holidays). Built in 1882, the monastery is protected as a culturally-significant part of Burmese heritage.

The journey takes you to Mount Popa, 1 ½ hrs away from Bagan, Mt. Popa is a place of great importance to the Burmese. It is believed to be the home to 37 Nats, ancient Burmese spirits. You will have to climb up 777 stairs and it will bring you to the top of Mt. Popa.

After the climb, you will have lunch at Popa Mountain Resort.
Drive back to Bagan. After around 30-40 minutes, we will stop at one of the famous local Palm production to enjoy the taste of the toddy juice (Sky Beer) with sunset over the plain of Bagan.

Balloon Experience Over Bagan - Experience the majestic landscape of Bagan with a soul-altering hot-air balloon ride over Bagan at sunrise -a thrill that promises to be a highlight of any trip to Myanmar. Dark and early in the morning, enjoy a snack of pastries, croissants, and coffee and watch as the balloons are filled -an experience itself. Then, after boarding the balloon, gently lift off above the temple-studded plains of Bagan just as the sun begins to rise above the horizon. After breakfast at hotel, you will transfer to the Nyaung U airport for domestic flight to Heho. Upon arrival, drive (1 hr) takes you to Kalaw. Much like Pyin Oo Lwin, Kalaw is a former colonial British hill station, with local and colonial style houses. It enjoys a cool weather throughout the year.

This quiet town offers a few sightseeing spots: Nee Paya (Bamboo Stripe Lacquer Buddha Image), Kalaw lively local market and some colonial old buildings, old catholic church and Railway Station.

After breakfast, drive (1.5 hrs) to Nyaung Shwe city. Then, transfer to the jetty and take by boat to Inle Lake. Moving across the lake, pass through villages with stilted houses, floating gardens built up from strips of land and anchored to the bottom with bamboo poles. Be on the lookout for fishermen uses unique leg-rowing technique to propel their boats while casting their nets.

Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, one of our stops, is the main sanctuary of Inle Lake and it has five glittering small Buddha statues which covered with gold.
Other stops include Nga Phe Chaung Monastery, a traditional Shan Style monastery with its famous for ancient Buddha images and continue visiting to the Nam Pan village to observe the cheroot making factory and wooden boat making.
Finally, we head to the hotel in time to catch a beautiful sunset.

After breakfast at your hotel, embark your boat and visit to the lake’s morning lively market. The market rotates its location around the lake’s villages in a 5-day rhythm and surrounding hill tribes who come to sell and trade their wares by boat. (Note: market is daily except on dark-moon day and full-moon day and the market days depend on the market calendar).

Continue to visit the weaving village of Inphawkhone. The workshops produce some fine shawls, scarves and longyi in silk, cotton and threads drawn from the stems of lotus plants.

Then we are leading to the western shore of Indein Pagoda complex, where you can see the ancient Shan style pagodas enshrined with white color stupas. We continue on foot by passing through the rice fields to reach village of Sae Ma.

In the early evening, continue visiting to one of the monasteries, and on the way back, en-route stop visiting at the Padaung women (long neck ladies) in Ywa Ma village. Transfer back to hotel.

After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to Heho airport for domestic flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, we spend the day visiting Yangon. Drive to visit the Pansodan Street and have a look at the colonial buildings and continue to the 31st street to visit the book shops. 

Stroll through to the Bogyoke Aung San Market known as Scott Market (closed on Mondays and Public Holidays). A must visit for tourist; here you can see rows of stalls selling hundreds of gemstone, handicrafts, art, clothes and food stores.

Visit to the Sule Pagoda, which is located at the heart of Yangon down town area.

We stop by Karaweik Hall, a unique golden barge on Kandawgyi (Royal Lake) for taking photos. It is a place of perfect view of Shwedagon Pagoda.

You are extended to visit one of the world’s most spectacular monuments; the 2,600 years old Shwedagone Pagoda.
Once sunset arrives, glittering in the dark skyline, Shwedagone Pagoda is indeed a sight to behold.
Lunch and dinner will be served at a local restaurant in Yangon.
