Tour Plan

day 1: arrrival luang prabang (d)

On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  Dinner at the local restaurant.
If time permit – we also have time visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hilltribe people surrounding LuangPrabang. Over night in LuangPrabang.

After breakfast, we enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple WatSene and the magnificent WatXiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, representing classical Laotian architecture. We then board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which gives us a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. En route, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where the local specialty of rice wine is produced. Once back in LuangPrabang city we take a short drive to Ban Phanom, a village well known for its hand weaving. We also have time to visit Ban Xangkhong, Ban Xienglek, small villages well known for silk weavings and for Saa (jute) Papermaking 
We then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city at sunset and the Mekong River.

An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (often in the form of sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the ritual. First we visit the Phousi Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Laos is also known for its traditional crafts. After breakfast, with a visit to the former Royal Palace and Houses (Museum), which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. we also visit the impressive stupa of WatVisoun following lunch.
 
Afternoon you will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, a Khmu village.  This then takes us to the beautiful Khuang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We return to the city by late evening to admire the sunset at WatthabathTai. Over night in LuangPrabang.

After breakfast, we make the day drive through wonderful natural scenery to Xiengkhouang.  The journey will give you plenty of opportunities for photos and visiting hill tribe villages. Upon arrival, we transfer out to visit Site 1 of the Plain of Jars, an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are scattered all over the plateau. Overnight in Xiengkhouang.

After breakfast, this morning we have time to visit the interesting Central Market in Phonsavan, visit the MAG exhibition and Site 2 of the Plain of Jars. We will continue to visit the old capital of MuangKhoun and the nearby villages, home to the Hmong hilltribe and Tai Dam peoples. You will then be before taking a short scenic watch the different hilltribe people barter and exchange merchandises.  Lunch at the local restaurant
Transfer to the airport for your Domestic flight to Vientiane. Up on arrival, meet our tour guide and transfer to hotel. 
Then have a city tour: visit the oldest WatSisaket, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of WatPrakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. On the way to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we stop enroute to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.
